Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Man I dont know how forever resorts can keep their doors open their are a lot of empty slips eek !! you would think I could find a good deal on a Hydrolift.

have a happy and safe dads day down at tbar chris!!

It was tough to get a reservation at any of their resorts this weekend. I tried Cottonwood Cove first (never been there either) and they are booked solid so we went to temple and I think got the last room. any thoughts on Cotonwood cove vs. tBar?

Yes. T-Bar . . .

I like Cottonwood as it is remote, but has none of the scenery that T-Bar offers. South across the basin is pretty sucky, and the ride up to Black Canyon below Hoover is a long one. I absolutely love Black Canyon, but I would do a day trip out of Willow before I would tie up a weekend at Cottonwood over T-Bar. You really have to try all of these places, but my lake list goes like this:

1) Mead

2) Havasu

3) Mohave

My Marina list goes like this

1) T-Bar

2) Callville/Las Vegas Harbor (tie)

3) Lake Havasu Marina (whole different deal, but still love it there)

4) Echo

5) Cottonwood

229) Katherine (yuck)

Not including anything Powell. Not fair.

LOL!

Perfect list.

We're talking about lakes, but I actually still like the Parker Strip as well even though you need to be a little more cautious with kids, but keeping the boat at TB makes it difficult to get there. I would like to go there again someday for the party atmosphere. Nothing like puling up to the floating dock at the Roadrunner for an omelet early in the morning!

Agree we were talking about lakes, but there are times that I would say Parker tops my list. LOVE IT!!!! Totally agree about safety there. Midweek on Parker is magic!

LVChris-

Enjoy Father's Day! TBar is a great place to spend it. We launched from there and spent our 31st anniversary in a cove behind the temple.

Your Family will love it other than all of the "are we there yets". You'll hear alot of them going to TBar...

PS- Keep an eye out for cows on the road masked by the dips in the road! The destination is worth the journey.

I can count the times I've seen cows on 1 hand..and they're ALL THIS YEAR! This is an important point, especially at night. Definitely take heed of this warning

...but we won't talk about that trip! :D

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

If you are going for big stripers you'll need to get down to the thermocline, now sure how low that is on Mead, but I'd think at least 30' this time of year, probably lower.. Use your sonar to see where it's marking big fish and go above them 10' or so. Lots of guys use AC plugs (I don't) and catch big stripers, but if I was targeting them on Mead I would drag something that looked like a gizzard shad, and about 12" long. I make my own lures which I run 90% of the time, but have others in my box that work OK, Castaic Trout, Pather Martin Vivif (out of production), these are mainly trout imitation lures, but I think you just need to present something big that a striper thinks it can eat.

If you are going for dink stripers at Mead, I don't think you need to use down riggers as I've caught them trolling with the lures/bait running 10-15' deep.

I fish Mohave/Willow Beach a LOT for big stripers and using down riggers would be a nightmare as there are snags all over the place, even trees out in the middle of the lake. I haven't seen it like that Mead and think the riggers would work OK there.

You'll probably get more/better responses if you post this up in the freshwater fishing forum, at least for down rigger questions.

Was out Tuesday, little to no wind, the water conditions were smooth to glass all day. My buddy got me up para sailing for the first time, it was so quiet up, really amazing and fun. We were at sandy cove/hamblin bay

I should add, when the water is warm you need to go deep where the big ones will be hanging out. Down at Willow where the water is 55*+- year round they are all over the water colunm and I troll surface lures all year long, "wakebaits". Mead in the winter you could long line surface lures, or subsurface.

That parasailing looks COOL! skiya, I bet that was a rush. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Oh, I bought finally broke down and bought an 8x8 EZ-UP canopy with a 1/2 back panel, was $55 at Kmart (Kame-apart :D) It's not the biggest thing, bit fits in the boat well. I wanted something that wouldn't be in the way, something that I wouldn't debate about leaving at home...

Yeah, way cool!! Looks pretty busy there for a Tuesday.

Funny. I totally think like that. If it's too big I'll accidentally leave it at home. Shhhhhhhh ;)

I won't tell anyone if you dont... :D

I have been known to forget things on purpose, then other times, not on purpose. Once I hauled the family out on a fishing trip, launched, got the boat anchored for a night of fishing and,,, hmmm, where did that tackle box go :facepalm: Not a single fishing hook in the boat and the marina store was long closed. We were back the following night "WITH" a tackle box.

Another time I forgot to pack provisions for myself, no food or drinks in the cooler. Heck, there wasn't even a cooler. Luckily I had my emergency supplies; dozen water bottles rolling around in the bow, some old stale crackers, granola bars (that had a faint aftertaste of gasoline), couple tins of sardines, can of chilly. I guess it was OK to eat as I'm still hear to tell the tale.

I forgot my underwear once :D

Hey skiya, that parasailing looks awesome dude. I have wanted to get one for years but there's always someone to talk me out of it because of some horror story. Maybe some day you guys will come down our way or vice verse.

I determined long ago there was no need for underwear at the "Riv" . . .
