We just started the boating life and are out on Lake Mead at least once a week! We always put in at Calville Bay, we love the ramp and everyone who works the marina is friendly and helpful! We usually go down to the dam for a bit and then either to Boulder Beach or through the narrows to the Virgin Basin.

That's awesome Bitd. What kind of boat did you end up getting? We launch out of Temple Bar (I know..duh!) and have been hanging out by Mushroom Reef in the Temple Basin this year.

And welcome to the forum :)

This area came to be known as the Pearce Ferry rapid. This shot was taken in June 2011 - note videographer in top left corner. At that time the rapid was extremely dangerous. The water has come up some and the rapid is not as fierce.
This is where a couple of rafters got into trouble when they launched at Pierce Ferry (illegally) and one of them got stuck in the rapid's hydraulics and drowned.

I picked up a 1988 Four Winns Liberator 201 off of Craig's List, it is in sound shape, a little faded on the outside and the interior has seen better days, but it floats and the mechanicals are in great shape. I will post a pic (hopefully, if the PC Gods are willing) for all to see. Haven't come up with a name for it yet...

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

It has the original OMC 350 Cobra and OMC drive. The only thing I had to do was check the hydraulic trim tab system for leaks after I found the resevoir was almost empty... No leaks found, and I refilled the system back up with fresh fluid. Also I noticed the power steering res. fluid appeared contaminated so I drained that and replaced with fresh fluid as well. Motor oil was fresh and clean with no signs of sludge buildup. I added a bottle of Startron to the fuel system as I think the use of ethanol gas was causing some lag in the performance. Overall, it runs really nice, never has issues starting, and seems to handle well, even in the choppy water.

Nice! I have an OMC also, parts for yours are easier to get than for mine, but you'll get lot's of support here.

Post up a thread over on the OMC I/O forum about just getting a new(ish) boat and ask what needs to be checked. There are maintenance items that need to be checked/replaced or things could get expensive, raw water pump impeller (2 years), bellows (5 years), etc. I you haven't, it would be good to ask the previous owner if any of the maintenance items have been completed,,, recently.

Oh Yeah, have fun out there!

That's a good looking boat! Look for us out on the water!

Thanks we love her! We have been putting in at Caville lately just because I don't have to back the truck half way in the water there. Spend most of our time at Sandy cove, the damn and wishing well (lately) and any chance we get TEMPLE BAR what a great area.
Been to the Virgin basin twice now and just too much to take in, any tips on where to go/what to see there?

Thanks,

The bottom of Bonelli and up the West side from there has given us some awesome wild horse moments. Yucky muddy beaches though. Gypsum Reefs on the East side is always interesting. Same though, beaches are yucky . . . A few exceptions at different water levels, but have to get really lucky to find them.

There are some pretty cool beaches on the north shore of Virgin as well when you get to where it turns up towards Echo, that's Middle Point and there's some decent beaches there worth checking out.
