Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I was fishing Vegas Wash last Thursday thru Saturday and water temp was showing around 86..Found one spot in Boulder Harbor that was 91....Fishing was good for stripers in the 2 to 3 pound size...Boiling fish early and also caught some on jigging spoons...
Just got water temp info

There are some pretty cool beaches on the north shore of Virgin as well when you get to where it turns up towards Echo, that's Middle Point and there's some decent beaches there worth checking out.
I like Middle Point as well. Can be a nice Lagoon there at different levels, but I haven't found good sand there. Where is it? I have found some sand at the absolute bottom of Bonelli before, but again, has to be when the level uncovers some as I've been other times and nuttin'.

Where'd you find that?

It was on posted on the NPS, LMNRA FB page..FYI, LOL :)

Funny, I always thought the the river below the dam was colder, more like the low 40's. Goes to show you what I know

Right now there are intermittent smaller sandy beaches along that whole stretch, starting after Boathouse Cove. Some are protected and some face the basin. Long sandy stretches of beach are pretty plentiful right in the Middle Point area, back in the bay or lagoon on the north side of the point - I think that must be the lagoon you're referring to.

Looking now, I guess it is Crescent Cove that I was calling a Lagoon. Not sure why I chose that word . . .

LOL, don't worry 12V, the park service doesn't even know the water temps in Black Canyon  .... When Mead is full the water coming out of Hoover Dam is 52-53 all year long, but with the low lake levels on Mead, the water in black canyon is warmer,,, if one would call 56* warm :D (I was down there last week the fish finder said, 56* water temp)

I was out at Echo this weekend and the water was perfect, could have sworn the fish finder was reading 86* where we were tied up on the beach. Just like bath water!

I thought I read somewhere that they take the lake temp readings 3' down, can anyone else confirm or deny that?

The NOAA takes water temps at 3' & 10' according to their site: NOAA

NPS - LMNRA reports a beautiful, calm day today at Lake Mead. Below, a beautiful view of Fortification Hill from across Boulder Basin. Wish I was there! I will be, for the Labor Day hooplaa...

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

15 days 'till next launch. We have a couple (wives have been best friends since kindergarten) going with their 5TH wheel to join us for a couple of days. They are going to camp wherever we are going.

They like to have full hookups and TV so I kicked around going to Cottonwood Cove, then Callville Bay, then Hemenway and decided we are going to Temple Bar. More full hookups available at TBar than any of the other trailer villages from what I've learned. We are going to hang out with them until 1 hour before dusk and have a full anchor(s) (Lot's-O-Chain) hookup each night.

Have a great time. We'll miss you by a week. We're headed out Friday for the holiday weekend. I didn't know t-bar had more full h/u spots than the other marinas. That's sad because we only have 9 or 10.

Yes. Lot's of campground sites with utilities at Cottonwood, but then I'm 600' lower in elevation in the heat. The only one close to the number of hookups at Temple Bar on Lake Mead had 5 in the trailer village.

Wow. Sure doesn't look like Mead. trying to think where there's color like that, and only place coming to mind is God's Pocket, but I don't believe that's it.

There's a place with shapes like that on Mohave at the bottom of the basin, but not that color. Trying to think of the name. Owl Rock? Gasoline Alley? You did add "NRA" so thinking that's a clue. Could also be in Black Canyon near hot springs. Hmmmmm . . .

On the north shore road, half way between Calville and Echo, wayside called Redstone or something like that??? I've wanted to stop there and let the kiddies check it out, but we either want to get to the lake, or are too beat from being at the lake.

Across from Overton Beach on the AZ side has some redrock formations too, but it looks like they are pretty far away, 5-10 miles up the hill.

If that's not it, I dunno...

Theres a nice spot also, under the bridge almost. on your way to lake mead marina just as you pass the turn off for las vegas bay.
On the lower side of this place if you look up high on the walls there two very big owls perched there on either side. When the water was full pool you could almost drive your boat into it.But its not as clean as that spot, theres writing on the walls, and beer cans on the floor, not mine of course lol.

I think this spot in the photo must be pretty high up and not visible from boat or car.Otherwise it too would have some human stuff in the picture.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Does anyone know where the B29 bomber that crashed into lake Mead is located exactly? I read an article stating it was in the Overton Arm... Where about? Is it still open to dive? Thanks in advance!
