Mystery photo - Where is this location at Lake Mead NRA?

265865_10151353653285828_682852018_o.jpg

The answer: Behind (southeast) Redstone Picnic Area on Northshore Road. Great hike in the late fall, winter and spring. The NPS also built new picnic shade structures and restrooms there as well.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I need some help remembering where the good places to beach/camp are close to Temple Bar....Hualapai Isle., Mushroom Reef, Teal Cove(?)

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I would go to the Mushroom Reef area first. It's only 4 miles from the marina and very protected. It won't be crowded at all now that the main season is over. You can go back in the Campanile area there and check it out as well. I just spent 5 days there and it's awesome right now. We also had some 'interesting' weather Thurs & Fri. I'll post pics & a vid when I get the chance.

I haven't gone back in Teal Cove to see if there's beaches there lately. The sandy islands that were there are gone with the elevation. For me, Hualapai is a little far without a houseboat for an extended stay by yourself.

Have a fun and safe trip out there mz!

Does anyone know where the B29 bomber that crashed into lake Mead is located exactly? I read an article stating it was in the Overton Arm... Where about? Is it still open to dive? Thanks in advance!

As far as I could figure out, it's 1/2 way between Rams Head island and the confluence (middle of lake where Temple/Virgin/Boulder basins come together), on the west side of the lake, 100-200 feet deep. Last I looked into it, they don't want people diving on it and it's by permit only. I'm not a diver, just thought it was an interesting subject.

We'll check out Campanile & Mushroom for the first night and play it by ear from then on. Looking forward to the weather pics/vids. Thanks for the tips!

How many desert bighorn sheep do you see in this photo?

I'm going with 10. Nine fairly easy ones, and a stealthy one that could be a rock

was that near Callville bay? I blew a trailer tire this weekend out there and as some wonderful people were helping me change it (they really did all the work, thanks again!) they pointed out a herd like this.

Living in Vegas almost 15 years and never saw one, now 9 in one day.

Quick question, can't seem to find a reliable answer to this. How far (by water) is it from Callville Bay to Temple Bar? Looks to me about 30 miles, I think doing 24 knots will take me over an hour, sound right? Then up to Big sandy about another 50 minutes?

There is a better one of these that I can't find right now. I'll keep looking:

If you have never crossed the Virgin Basin (ir even if you have), you should do some more reading up here. Your boat will be very good, but you need to know that it could be 40 MPH out and 12 MPH back. Or visa versa. If there is any doubt, duck into Mushroom, or Temple Bar itself and stay the night ;)

Thanks that helps.

Yes I have been going to Lake mead for over a year and just wen to virgin basin for the first time. I will venture a little further each time and would plan that Callville to Temple Saturday morning get a room and then see Big sandy that night or the next day. Then back on Sunday.

They're all over the area, so I doubt it was the same herd. I'll wait till more chime in on the number in the picture, but it sounds like the herd you saw had 9.

Ditto on QC's words of wisdom. TBar to Sandy Point, or 'Big Sandy' requires you go across Gregg Basin which can get real nasty as well because it's a north-south trajectory. Other than that, have a great trip!

OK, I missed the one towards the top, but I think there's an 11th . . . ;) Almost positive.

Nice pics. Where exactly was that? Two different spots, right?
