If you have (storm swim baits) you will catch stripers and large mouth too,no matter what season!

Just saw the news article which said the boat's name is Rendezvous...with the bottom I guess..

I though it might of been called waynes down under!! lol! ha ha , but my serious thoughts are how did it sink ?? The news said it was at the bottom of lake, but in 12s pict it was bow up at the marina.Either way i have a fade hair cut again now the lake is open, but no one cared but me i guess, normal day at lake for me.

'Ol Waynees yacht is on the bottom @ about 45' of water. The yacht is around 65' long, so it's rearing it's pretty head for us, standing there on the bottom.

What's a 'fade hair cut'?

I was sent some really awesome pictures, ? Timothy O'Sullivan, of some areas of the lake waaayyy before a dam was even a twinkle in the government's eye... For anyone that enjoys the history of the lake like I do, these will be awe-inspiring.

If those are really 1871 this would be Powell's 2nd expedition. Missed that significance first time. Thanks for digging sam! :)

Didn't know there was a active Lake Mead Boating forum other than the fishing forums....

Some of you might know who I am by some of the posts I read from the past. Here I will give you a couple of hints...

34lb Striper out of Echo bay - Big Fish Hauled In From Lake
44lb Striper out of Echo Bay - Lucky fishing hole yields early gift | Las Vegas Review-Journal

I will be using this site for information and to give information about Lake Mead. I have a place up at Callville Bay and have been trying to learn the other end of the lake since they closed the marina up at Echo Bay. (I still trailer my boat up to echo though to fish).

Went out yesterday 10/27/2013 to take my family for a ride from Callville Bay to Lake Mead Marina for Lunch at there restaurant. The lake was beautiful today. Air temp had to of been in the low 90's and the water was like glass.

After lunch my son wanted to fish for a bit so we headed back to Callville. We went to a place near Callville I found that has been excellent for me. Only consistent place I have found on this end of the lake.

We started trolling and in less than 5 minutes we had our first fish on. In less than a hour we brought in 5 nice stripers.

All together it was a great day on the lake. I look forward to contributing to this forum. If anyone has any questions about fishing or boating out here on the lake let me know.

Here are the pics of the fish we caught today

Welcome aboard lvdude! Nice haul. I am not much of a fisherman although I have some fresh and salt experience. I have trolled/casted for Striper when I have seen boils. Do you troll without boils? And when you do bring in a "jig" fish can you chum and then grab more around the boat without trolling? Like we would work Tuna?

Good job, I'm new for fishing, I have been Vegas wash and black island for two days with live bait fishing, but no luck, I got nothing, not even a bite. :D:D

Good to see you make it over here lvfishingdude. I've seen you post over on the AC site before. iboats Lake Mead thread is a bit different; boating, watersports, discussing the lake, just not all fishing like the other site (not that fishing a bad thing). There are a hand full of fishermen here and your input will be appreciated. I fish Mohave 90% of the time, and only on Mead (Echo) a couple times a year...

I was actually going to try Echo for big stripers this winter, but every time I think of doing that,,, I go to Mohave instead... Mohave/Willow Beach is becoming a pain to troll due to all the weeds, so I may make it out to Echo this winter.

Honestly, All I do is troll 2 poles and keep changing the lures until I find the ones they like that day. The 2 poles I troll have line counters on them so I know how many feet to let out to get the lure to the depth I want. There are days I only have to let out 125 feet, and there are days I have to let out 275.

I just started having a pole ready with a big silver Castmaster lure on it to throw at a boil.

The reason I pretty much only troll, is because stripers are always on the move looking for dinner. Staying in one spot might work for a little while. But when they move on, they really move on. If I can keep them on the fish finder, I can catch them all day long. When they stop hitting the lure that was working before, change it up and keep changing it until you find the color or style they want at that time of day.

I will give you all one of my biggest secrets. I should charge you all for this one...lol....

If you see the birds that dive down under water for shad, the school of stripers are usually behind them in the direction the bird swims away. I call them "my birds". They have never failed me.

Hope some of this might help, if any of you have questions post them here or message me. I can help you out whether it is fishing or recreating.

-Ok last 2 secrets and that is it

1. The lure brand that has caught me the big ones are called Lucky Craft. THEY ARE NOT CHEAP! about 15-25 dollars a piece. The color I found has slaughtered the big stripers when they decide to creep from the depths of Lake Mead.

2. If you see a cove or a point with a bald eagle in it, FISH IT. There is a reason the Eagle is there looking for dinner!

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I thought some of you would like this

I posted on the Nevada Fishing forum I use that a few days ago i inherited my family's photo albums. I have only been told stories of how high the lake was "back in the day" and how you could dangle your feet in the water at the top of the Echo Bay Launch ramp. Honestly I didn't believe the stories until I stumbled across the photo's below.

I also have been told about how they had hotel rooms at Overton Beach back in 1983, until the lake rose and swallowed them up. I didn't believe that, until I found these pictures. I would of only been 2 years old when these were taken. All I can say is wow, where did all the water GO!!!!

Thought some of you would like to see these. I tried to find other pictures from Overton Beach back in 1983 through GOOGLE and couldn't find anything that actually shows what happened when the lake rose so quick.

Wish we could actually have one of these 100 year floods to fill the lake to the level it should be so we all can stop worrying about our awesome and beautiful lake.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Hey lvdude. Wanna see the pics, but the links are bad . . . :(

1983 was known for an insane run of March storms. Almost lost Glen Canyon Dam. Woulda been bad  They had to let as much as possible out of Powell and of course Mead had to take up the slack. 2000 the lake was almost as high. Check lake levels for history here: Bureau of Reclamation: Lower Colorado Region

The lake jumped up in 88 and '98 as well. Actually higher than '83 in '98. Want those pics!!!!

Edit: Looks like July of '83 was highest ever. 1225 ft. I was thinking March because that's when the storms were. But flow and issues at Powell apparently were June/July. Looking for that story. Pretty amazing. They saved her with Plywood..

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

That is my grand father. That was right in front of the hotel/restaurant at Echo Bay.

I have never used a downrigger on Lake Mead. Yet, the boat I just bought came with a brand new electric scotty downrigger. I am going to try it out one of these days. I have always relied on my line counter reels to get my lures to the depth I want.

Eagle cove has never failed me. There are always fish there.

I will give you all a hint of where Eagle Cove is. When you go out of Echo, turn left and it is 2.5 miles north. Hope that helps.
