Calling all MeCruiser geniuses

If you read what the book says the uppers are called "Drive Shaft Housing Water Drain Holes"...(two each side). two being the ones I mentioned were painted over and the other two are the ones I'm talking about. The one on the bottom is considered the "Gear Housing Water Drain Hole".

You are absolutely right! Probe all those holes and slots when you put the boat up for the winter following the manual. Manuals written by technical writers who have never worked on the product are never wrong along with your mechanic.

Since you have the answer and not one of us has agreed with you, the manual or your mechanic, there is no reason to continue this discussion.
