Im not sure if this is the write spot for this but seams like very skilled engine guys on here. So ive got a line on a set of camel hump heads is what there called so im told. Supposedly 300hp heads 2 02 and 1 06 valves. Would these be a better head then the stock head on my 84 5.7?

If memory serves me correctly (and no guaranties) those were originally on the 350 HP 327. But they had pistons, cam, intake and exhaust to go along with them. Unless your building up a complete racing engine I wouldn't use them.

they are now a collectors peace and may be worth money on ebay. Even true vortec heads are old hat but the best game in town for a 5.7

Ayuh,.... With SBC heads, without a Castin' Numbers, ya got Nothin' to go on,....

'n We don't need, nor want massive valves, 'n intake ports on our motors,....
That sorta thing builds big horsepower numbers, at the expense of Torque down low,...

Dollar for dollar, pound for pound, the Best way to go, is Vortec fast burn heads, 'n a matchin' intake,...

So ive got a line on a complete 1997 vortec 350 engine 400 bucks less then 200 000 km on it. So my question can I use the pistons rods cam lifters along with the heads and fit them to my block? Or am I better off to just use the heads.. Thoughts and opions appreciated from you engine guys.

Candian dollar about the same as the Aussie.... And they sting us for shipping too (and I mean STING!!!!).... We can't just 'drive over the border'....

Good luck with it all.

Why would you want to take it all apart? Why can't you use the Vortec as is?

Chris I could see how it could get expensive for you. I do drive over often to get stuff and it saves me a heep. In this case I dont think so.k2 I considered doing this it would involve a new coupler flywheel and electric fuel pump a. Plus I like to tinker and learn a thing or too

The vortec should be running a roller cam, so the lifters won't fit into your block and the roller camshaft shouldn't be used with standard lifters.
I've got one 5.7 vortec head off of a Volvo around here (the Kawarthas) that I could let you have cheep but $400 for a complete engine sounds like a heck of a deal.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that they both used the same push rods. You will have both sets, so just compare them for length
Good luck and have fun.
