Howdy, Y'all!

Sorry for the cold call, but I could REALLY use your help with something. I bought an 88 Bayliner Capri and it has a camper top. I have tried 3-4 times now to figure out how to put the thing on, and I'm at a total loss (We're talking hair pulling, boat cussing, can-kicking loss). I've read some of the descriptions on the forums about how to put these in, but I'm a visual learner and all it does it confuse me worse. :)

Do you, by any chance, have any picture of the INSIDE of a Bayliner (88 or close to) Capri with that top on (like, showing the pole configuration and how/where they atach)? I would be VERY grateful of you might be willing to share a couple of those with me.

Thanks!

I too was in the same spot as you when I got my 87 BL.

The easy way to describe it is as follows.

Inside your boat next to the back to back seats on each side is a black plastic piece that looks like this on the pole that slides into the one already on the top.

The Bikini top has a pole on each side just like a Bimini and there should be a clamp that looks like this

You will notice that there are snaps on the front of the Bikini top, these are attached to plastic pieces that look like this if you do not have them or if they are broken, I had to purchase screw fasteners and drill a hole on the round plastic part of the clip and then grind down what came through the other side so it would not damage the glass, the round plastic part worked ok but having a standard snap was more sturdy.

Once you have the top on you will then attach the rear section using the zipper, it is a real pain if it is not stretched well and a very sunny day really helps.

I hope this helps you, my boat is not covered right now so I do not have any photos to provide but I figured it out.

I sent a pm to him showing those pieces also. Theres almost no headroom with the thing installed though. I dont have the lower short poles for mine so i probably wont ever use it. ill just pass it on with the boat one day...

Yeah same here. I took the bikini out of the boat since most of my passengers start to take it down anyway, it is good for storage thats about it.

Thanks for you help way back when I had the same question :) at best I think the camper top is a novelty but it was probably a great selling point when the boats were new, it sure will not hurt the re sale value in the end.

Hi Guys! - sorry - just saw the replies (I thought it would send me an e-mail but it didn't). I have all of the pieces and everything, it was the poles that had me a bit confused. It looks like there are two long ones and then a short one that attaches to one of the long ones (in the front? in the back?). Not sure.

Thanks for the help and for taking the time. I'll give it another shot. :)
