Camping with a boat

The wife and I are looking at going camping for her birthday the second week of June. We are looking at one of three local lakes that have state camp ground sites. The problem is that this is the first time we will be camping with our boat. Not all of the latches lock as it is an older boat. How worried should I be about the stuff I keep in the boat, i.e.: rods, reels, and some tools? Should I take them out at night or just lock up what I can?

Any experiences you guys can give me would be great.

I have my secluded camping site (small island) away from everybody. You can leave a nice cold beer out in open and it will be there the next day.

Never had anything stolen from my boat.. but I usually don't leave it unattended for prolonged period of time.

I would say pull it out of water and back to campsite. That's what I always did.

Experience says, "Lock up what you can and take the rest out of the boat." I tried locking everything in the car. After I got my VW camper I kept the boat trailer (with boat) hooked up and tied my dog to the boat.

As ferocious as our cat is, I'm not sure how that would work tying her to the boat.

I do have to say that the thought of pulling the boat out of the water had not crossed my mind for some reason. Just a little embarrassed about that one. That is probably what I will do, as well as locking up the FFs and maybe using a bicycle chain on the TM.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Hopefully everything will go great. I never camped much as a child and with us about to start a family, it is something that I would like to get into. A guy I used to work will goes a lot and he hasn't mentioned anything bad every happening so maybe there is a kind of trust that is involved.
