I have an OMC outdrive with a 350 Ford Windsor. I think engine was replacement in this 1989 BaylninDropped the outdrive per YouTube OMC TC Electronis guru Wayne Coll. Absolutely removed all bolts. Everything. Cannot get upper and lower to separate. Is it in gear or something?
Followed instructions to a T. I know the shifter arm in the lower is tough to move, but will engage F-N.
I’m stumped. Please help.
Thank you!

I had to get a stiff putty knife and work it into the seam between the upper and lower unit to get it to start moving. Then I took a pry bar once I could get it in there and VERY CAREFULLY started prying and working it around the entire perimeter a little bit at a time. It finally came apart, but there was a good bit of corrosion on some of the surfaces that was making it difficult to move.

You will have to turn the shift arm to the side once you get it moving in order to completely separate it.

you are fighting some serious corrosion there.

Do a search on my user name I posted up a method of doing this that works great. It’s due to deposits on one of the orings. You need an out drive stand, a piece of all thread 2 1/2” bolts and 4 nuts and 3 scissor jacks. Works great no damage!

hope you can see what I did in this pic...I put the 2 1/2" bolts in the lower drive mount holes, used the 2 nuts to hold them tight and put the all thread in the hole for the trim rams. Then put a scissor jack on each side under the all thread and one under the 2 1/2" bolts. Just jack slowly and evenly it will pop off like magic. I've done this at least 2x over the years.
