can 1989 Merc controls work with a 1989 Evinrude??

hi there,

is it possible to mix controls with a different engine..
i have Merc controls for an 200 hp outboard. the engine is dead. and i am getting an Evinrude engine without the controls.

will this work and if it doesn't is it costly to swap out with new /newer Evinrude controls.

sorry they don't work, the throw is different. shop aroung on ebay for a controller w./ cables and wiring harness, make sure the harness has the correct engine plug.
