I'm still trying to figure out if my stator is good or not so I'm asking if a bad rectifier can mess up your stator?
I'm asking because I found one burnt rectifier and the yellow connectors were melted and brown and the other was kinda close to a brown melt.
The trigger looks like was overheated and it's kinda craked and I'm considering changing the stator and trigger.
The only thing that's holding me it's the price of the stator , at around $300.00 It's a pricey one , so I'm asking if it's possible that bad rectifiers can burn/mess your stator up?
Thanks

From an electrical standpoint I am going to say yes.I shorted rectifier can load the windings enough and increase the current draw enough to overheat and either open them up or short them out.An open rectifier may or may not damage them.Voltage spikes from an open rectifier can short the windings which can then burn them out.Ron G

What size engine?

I have ran into a stator issue with my Merc 50. Mercury told me I had to buy the "stator kit" which is over 300$. A regular stator is about 125$. However I was informed (from this site) that CDI makes a replacement stator that wont overheat and its around 150$.
