Can a cracked drive shaft housing be repaired?

I have a 1960 Merc 400. I just discovered a crack in the drive shaft housing where the lower unit bolts to it. Can this casting be welded or is it junk?

A good welder with a TIG welder can make it good as new, a hack will turn it into scrap metal
