Can anyone drive your boat and be covered under boating insurance?? Say the owner is not on the boat, can I take the boat out and the owner still be covered??? it seems to me that you only get either full or part coverage for your boat and not specific drivers.. let me know.. Thanks

on my policy, anyone taking the vessel out (with my permission, it says ;) ) is covered on my policy. From the way it is stated on my policy, I would imagine that there are varying versions of this sort of coverage.

it depends on the policy - is it commercial or just hull coverage?

My policy says the same as Ol' Norse. Gotta be with my permission. Other than that, no age requirement or anything.

Check the fine print of your policy or call the Company to confirm. Every policy can be different some have age restrictions.

Regards

Chris

Also, watch out for differences between the loss and liability parts of the policy. If your buddy Joe borrows your boat with your permission and trashes it, your insurance company would pay for the amount of the loss.

But suppose Joe accidentally plows through a marked swimming area and maims or kills someone and a lawsuit for $10M is filed. Who do they go after to make up the difference from the measly $100K (or whatever) liability limit in the policy?

It's the latter that would scare me to death.
