can anyone identify this old boat?

i have picked up an old 17-18' cabin cruiser hull for a reasonable price, but it has never been identified and the PO filed for a lost title. the year, brand or model could not be identified and it was issued a homebuilt title.

I think the boat is too well designed to be a glastron as is suggested by the PO....... my guess is, it is somewhere in the 70's to early 80's vintage.

it has very well fitted teak wood through out... the windows are all flat glass with extruded aluminum frames ( still no leaks after all these years).. the deck (floor) is flat from front to rear and sealed with scupper holes at the transom and a drain plug for the below deck/bilge.... the hull deck joint is an upturned bulwark style with an aluminum caprail.... (its very solid and without flex)... the hull resembles a boston whaler design and the bow at the hull deck joint is not pointed, but broad and rounded, making for a broad foredeck.... it has an outboard well and the outside of the transom is stepped.... thicker where the motors would hang, and steps to a bit thinner outboard of the motorwell cutout...

did boston whaler make small cabin cruisers?... any other suggestions? Thank you...

Got a couple hours?
Look thru the fiberglass boats posted here:
Classic Boat Library

There are LOTS of makers, so dig in & let us know if you ID here. I looked at 8 I though possible, but none looked like it to me.

Some makers built 1 boat & never sold it before going under, so you may never figure out what it is unless someone see's your pix & used to own one.

Your boats beam (width) & length (along the centerline), odd shaped bow hatch, how it's lifted up off the deck by a curb that intersects w/ the windshield mount, plus the 2 scallops aft of the window (sort reverse scoops) may help you narrow down the possibles to THE ONE.

IMHO, it may be earlier then you think. I 'think' it looks like a late 60's early 70's cabin cruiser, not 70's/80's.

What does the registration/title show? Depending on your location, title-less boats can be difficult to register & title. Make sure to have that sorted out before you do any work on her.

Good luck w/ your project & welcome 'back' to Iboats, it's been a while.

I agree it's closer to mid 60's style and look. Trailer looks even earlier, maybe late 50's but it's all guessing. The clues are there you just need to dig around and try to get some evidence. Any plates on the transom? There is a year/date that these transom tags were mandatory, but I don't know what it is either. That may help you narrow the before date down.

If I read it properly, the PO has a title as issued as a home built. So registration is taken care of. other than that, I can only identify the boat as yours because you posted it. :D

Im with everyone else, it looks to be mid 60's design.

Transom tags were required around 1972, but I think the boat is older than that.. It still could have a tag tho. My Custom Craft does and it identifies as a '63

Since she is titled as "homebuilt", a state issued HIN might be on the back of her. Mine, issued because of age/no title in Georgia starts "GAZ". That only means GA issued the HIN, but any official provenance is lost, but she's legal.

Hit the FiberGlassics library link, grab a beer (or two or three) and start looking. Hope you find her there. Your girl is gonna look good on the water. :thumb:

There were quite a few of them around here when I was a kid and I always wanted one. Matter of fack I've looked at a couple of them in the past couple years and if I could find a nice one, well that's what daydreams are for.

thank you everyone.... bonz_d posted the link to help identify it as a glasspar, as is shown in several frames in the second link, showing the scalloped trim panels aft of the cabin windows.... i have since located a G emblem in the boat.... im my opinion, it is a very good attempt at building a quality boat. still solid throughout.... thanks again for your help....

I agree that the pics in the second link show both the pentagon shaped hatch and the scalloped panel. A few even show the boat with twin mercs in glorious chrome

And if you go to youtube you will find a number of videos of that boat.

I just love the looks and lines on that boat. Wish I had room for a project one. Would make a great little trolling rig.
