Can anyone tell me how to determine which length control cables I need?

I have finished building my center console and am ready to fit the helm and throttle controls. What is the correct way to calculate length of steering and throttle cables please?

Measure the path they will travel rounding up to nearest foot. Not sure how you're cables will route but for my boat, a cuddy, I measure from the remote controls on the starboard side, back to the end of the boat, then from the end of the boat to the center where the outboard is. Round up to nearest foot and add two feet. You'll probably want the cables to make a loop in the splash well so they don't bind up.

What, you mean a complete loop of extra cable? How does this help? I don't know if you can see on my project pages but I don't really have a seperate splashwell, so I would be treading on them while fishing, lol.

Not sure is this will help, but I have an 18 foot bow rider with an outboard. I just purchased 12 foot cables. After removing the old cables, I measured them against my new cables and noticed the new cables were about a foot shorter. I went ahead and installed the new cables even though I knew they were a little shorter. The old cables sat in the splash well in a fairly large loop, but the new cables seem to fit about right. With the new cables I don't have the loop I used to have, but there is enough extra that the motor still has the full range of motion. Good luck.
