I am going to look at, and probably buy a new (to me ) boat this saturday, and the lady selling it told me the trailer is not a factory trailer. it is one that was bought recently. She had it in dry dock, and bought the trailer when she decided to sell the boat.

the pic is to large to upload so here is a link

it looks like the center rollers tilt up for unloading, but ive never used a trailer like this. It looks sturdy enough, and she says it fits the boat perfect.

any input?

The center rollers can be raised for loading/unloading in shallow water. Not generally needed for normal use. I've seen that design for fishing boats before, where they are often unloading at questionable ramps/beach.

Good find though, those trailers are well built, and fairly rare.

will i have an issue with the boat sitting up high on the trailer? it looks like i would have to back down very far for the boat to float off.

The whole ideas is that the boat does not float off. It rolls off.

right, i understand that, but if the boat sits 4-6in higher then on another trailer, id have to back further in before it ever touches the water.

And how much of the trailer do you have to submerge before it floats?

with my current rig, i just put the top of the fenders under and i can push it off. my truck tires are just at the edge of the water. loading, i keep just the top of the fender out of the water, and i can winch it on with a little effort.

Sorry to hear that! My rig just the transom of the boat needs to be touching the water and the bed of the truck isn't even to the waters edge. Both in and out.

OK, so you're going to look at a boat and trailer for possible purchase.

You will be able to find out how well the trailer works for you when you do the pre-purchase sea trial.

launch, sea trial, load.

Then make your decision.

Look a little closer at that trailer and see if the whole bed tilts and not just the rollers.

Once had an old Gator trailer that when the bed tilted the front of the bunks would drop some and place more of the weight on the keel rollers making it easier to roll off and winch back on.. With that trailer I could launch and load w/o the axles even getting wet.
