That little plate on the transom should have the HIN number.
The first three letters identify the manufacturer.
Having said that..... The Title/Registration will have the Manufacturer/Year/Size of the boat listed.
If you do can not get a clear title in YOUR name, DO NOT let the current owner have a dime!
In most states it take an act of congress to Title a boat without a clean existing Title.
Do yourself a favor;
At the top of this page, click on "My Profile".

Fill in your general location, City, State.
You will get better answers Specific to your location.
