Can I add a bushing?

I found the temp sensor I needed 1 wire connection problem is I need to add a bushing to make it fit. Temp sensor on a 1990 ford Windsor in a master craft, the water flow thru should reach the water sensor?

I pulled the old sensor static water level is right up to the top of where the fitting threads in and when I start the motor water shoots out, I know path of least resistance but I believe the sensor will be wet when the engine is running.
