My boat came with a trim limit switch which works well but I have no trim position indicator. Can I add one? Are the wires already there or do I have to tear the out-drive apart?

You'll need to look at the starboard side of the bell housing. If it has a blank, you'll need to buy a full kit. But if there's a trim position pot there, just buy a gauge and connect it up.

Does it have switch on right side of OD or is OD switch there but it is just defective or has one and no gauge indicator at helm to provide you with the trim angle. A photo may help. Regardless, I suspect you may have to plumb wiring by removing complete OD. I am surprised it didn't come with both switches on OD? I suggest examining wiring coming from only switch out of transom assembly. There should be 2 sets: one for limit and one to identify angle of OD.

I can't get at the boat 'till mid April. The boat never had a trim indicator, just wondering if the wiring might be part of a standard wiring harness that goes into all Mercruisers. Guess I'll have to open up the port thingy where it would go and see what's in there!

Yes, there is a Brown/White wire on pin 10
This wire goes to the sender and ground the other lead from the sender.
At the helm attach wire to the gauge and connect purple wire to + side on the gauge

So if I open up the cap where the sender goes I should see the brown/white wire in there? This seems too easy to be true!

Ayuh,.... Ya don't have to open up the sender, just look inside the gimbal ring for the 2 wires goin' to it,....

No
I'm saying the Brn/Wht wire is part of the boat and engine harnesses. There should be an unused Brn/Wht wire at the helm and on the motor

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll be getting into this when I get back up North.
