Can I check the trim position sendor with a multimeter

I want to determine if it is the gauge or sendor. 5.0 merc with alpha 1 it only has 9hrs on it and the dealer that had all the time in the world for us to buy the boat is now to busy to look at problem. They told me 3 week wait till they can look at it.

Thanks Skibug it was very help full looks like a sticky gauge. The needle will move if I lightly tap on the gauge housing as I lower or raise leg.
