Can I damage my engine by running it without a thermostat?

It is an 88 force 50hp that i am trying to run for a few hours on the water to trouble shoot a bad thermostat/overheating prob..

I wouldn't think so as long as it was getting good water flow while you were testing it. It might just take a little longer to warm up.

It won't damage the motor, however, it will not get up to optimum operating temperature for maximum power and efficiency.
