I'm going thru my 1974 Johnson 50 and the manual says to take off the cylinder head to decarb pistons and head. I used to use Easy-Off oven cleaner when I rebuilt car engines.....is it a good idea here?

Never tried it, as long as you are not trying to run it through the engine, I don't see why you couldn't.

Thank god! I thought you wanted to run it on oven cleaner. Yes you can use oven cleaner if you want. However, I wouldn't bother. Leave the head alone. Just run some engine tuner or Seafoam through it. I normally pull the plugs and give the cylinder a good spray with Seafoam Deep Creep and let sit for a few days.
