Re: Can I fit a generator / alternator to a '67 Evinrude V4 60 hp?
Tinkerer2
Look on the carb manifold bracket, easiest to determine the position if you look on the opposite side that currently has the starter. If there is a circle, about 1 ½ in diameter, then you have a manifold that will house a generator. If you hook a generator to it, you can get away with running a live well pump and running lights on the way home. To run an alternator, it is comprehensive and not worth the trouble in my opinion. You will need a generator, (find it online, or if youre in a rush, let me know and Ill send you to a place that will want you to part with about $150.00.

If you search eBay, you can come across one within a month or so for about $40.00, You can use a voltage regulator from a 70s era ford, and if you need the schematic, I will draw it and fax it to you. It should take you about 2-4 hours and three beers to install the generator, regulator, and voltmeter.

If you dont use more power than starting, and lights on the way home, it may be easier to plug in a charger when you get back to the dock.
Good Luck,
Butch
