My 75 horse Mariner operates at 5000 rpm at wot. My tach redlines at 6000. Can I get more with some adjustment or is that as high as I should run it?

Each motor is designed with a peak power band, and the book on that engine will tell you where that is. It can't be changed without serious mechanical mischief, like porting, compression, different fuel, etc. Running outside of that power band gains you nothing and can cost excessive wear or danger of breakage.

John, why couldn't he just drop a couple of inches in prop pitch if all he wants is more RPM at wot? Not sure what his max is but 5500-5800 is usually pretty safe.
