Right now I don't have a control box that will work with my motor for killing with the ignition so I am just pulling the spark plug wires to kill it but that is dangerous reaching over the flywheel and extra wear on the plug wires.

Can I connect a simple 2 wire electronic switch to my terminal block for a kill switch, which wires do I need to connect? what do I have to be careful of?
1987 Evinrude 28HP SPL

O i also have the side of the red plug harness that would connect to the control box all the wires were cut off so I have all the wires there, could I just connect 2 of them, which ones?

In a emergency you can always choke the carb. It would just die for you.

Don't you have a red kill switch that is supposed to attach to the boat operator with a laynard? If so you can remove that or on many, just push in on it to kill the motor.

Re: can I install a kill switch?

thanks mikesea thats what I was looking for,
i have a pull switch hooked up to those wires but i dont know whether the switch is on or off, would it do any harm if it is hooked up and i tried to start it and it is in the wrong position?
i really dont understand when people say you have to be careful not to send 12v back to your powerpack how does that happen?

to be on the safe side, use a ohm meter or lightblb,to check the switch, remember, your going to GROUND not positive, you dont want to put positive to the kill,or cross pos with neg etc.

When the kill switch lanyard clip is fitted to the switch the engine is set to run. When you pull the lanyard the clip comes out of the switch and the engine dies. Not rocket science -- you need the clip in place to start the engine because pulling it is what stopped it.
