9.9 it is. I got carried away and watched a second and third video and the third WAS a 9.5. I 'll have to remember to have at least two cups of coffee before logging on!! Too funny. Rick.

I like JB's response! Yeah, some Go Power pyramid reeds, dual Tillys, alky and nitro-methane...don't forget to run 16:1 castor oil too!

The You-Tube video adds credence to the benefits of hopping up a 9.9HP, they have potential as you can clearly see. These engines were real power houses; the SS15 sold by OMC for APBA Class A outboard racing would make a little 8 foot tunnel hull go 50mph!

No castor oil. That is for straight methanol.

The Glo-plug fuel has plenty of silicon (synthetic) lube.

I did make an error though. It should have been 1 quart of Fox Hi-Nitro per gallon of methanol.

Also failed to mention port treatment and compression ratio mods.

I also completely failed to respect the OP's desire to not spend a lot of bux.:D

Re: Can I make my 9.9 Evinrude go faster?

I have a 1965 Sears 12' Aluminum with an 8hp Mariner that runs about 25mph. I took a prop off a 15hp, made the transom close to 2" higher, and drilled 5/16" vent holes in the prop. Haven't seen a 15hp anything that can hang with me! Not sure what you can do about prop selection....
PS: put the big boys to SHAME in small water!:D
