Can I Mount Fuel/Sep on Transom?

I just purchased a 1986 Aquasport 19' C/C with a 90 hsp Evinrude. The best, and probably only place, I can mount my fuel sep. is on the inside of the transom just to starboard side under the motor. My question is should I just screw it to the transom or bolt it through? I'm a little worried about messing with the transom. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mounting the sperator on the transom is fine. I would just screw it in and call it good. Just put some 3m 4200 on the screw threads and over the screw heads to keep water out of the transom.

Thats what I thought, although the holes are pretty big 3/8". What size screws should I use?

Yea 3/8 is a pretty big screw. I would use a screw with the head big enough for the 3/8 hole. But short enough not to go through the transom. So assuming your transom is 1.5" thick, I would use a 1-1/4" screw with a 3/8 size head on it. It wont take much to hold the separator in place.

That is just how i would do it, if anyone else has a idea feel free to chime in.

Someone mounted the fuel filter on the inside of my boat right next to the transom on the side. They apparently used a wood spacer (gone) and normal screws (threads completely rusted - gone). The thing sits there nice and still as if it's floating 1.5" off the side of the boat. I purchased a new stainless version. Been wondering how I was going to mount it. I'd love to get it away from there so I didn't have to trip over it getting in and out of the boat. Be nice if I could hide it in a cubby but that would make it very hard to drain the water and change the filter.
