I have a 1986 evinrude 60 hp and need two carbs for it, no one in town seems to have any carbs for the 60, but my favorite parts bin has a full set of 3 off of an 1986 70 hp. The set of three 70 hp carbs is going to be the same price as buying two brand new 60hp carbs. Is this something i should think about doing? Will it really bump me up to a 70hp? will it run efficiently? i dont want to kill the thing.

The 60hp and the 70hp use the same block and the carbs will bolt right up, but it may run a little rich. There are other differences in the two engines mainly in the exhaust. Look in the BRP sight and compare the engine parts between the 60 and the 70. My gut feeling is that you can get away with the 70 carbs, but I have never upgraded them on that engine.

Yes!
Your situation is exactly the same one I had last year. I had a Marine Mech. do the work and she runs like a dream. Mine is a 1986 60 HP Evinrude.
A little late in my response time.. but better late than never.

In 86, the powerhead part numbers are not the same between the 60 and 70 and 75. Possible that the port machining is different between them all. (The 75 should be a high port engine.) The heads were also different. You should have no problem swapping to the 70 carbs. The 70 carbs should have larger throats and larger high speed jets. If it flows more air/fuel, you will make more hp. By 92 all the powerheads and heads are all the same part number-so the only difference was the carbs. I had an idle problem with my 92 60, (no suprise on a 3 cyl) so switched to the 70 carbs. While still not perfect, it runs/idles much better. Got about 200 more rpm on top. Happy with the results.

I am in a similar situation. I'm gonna be working on my 1985 Evinrude 60 HP over the winter and was thinking about getting 70 HP carbs on it. Does anyone know the age range of carbs that will work on my 60?

this is an old post, but isn't your engine a 2 cylinder, in 86 they changed to 3 cylinder for the 60hp, may not work
