Title is pretty self explanatory. I have a 12K boat lift and am looking at a boat that weighs 10,190 dry. Is the 12K lift going to handle that comfortably, or do you really need to upsize it to support a boat that weighs that much?

honestly it seems like a bit of a silly question to me (of course we all ask silly questions on occasion).... if the boat weighs 12,000 or under then the manufacturer says the lift is designed to handle it... sooo you have capacity for 1810 lbs of fuel and gear.

I don't think I'd try to lift it with full tanks and 12 people on board tho

If the cables are more than 5 years old, you might think about replacing them. Other than that, as stated above, it should handle it.

It does, and thanks for the advice, I may have them come out and do a replacement before I put a bigger boat on the lift.

As for a silly question, yes, guilty as charged. I thought that perhaps lifts were like engines. Yes, my 5.7 engine is rated at 300HP. If you run it at 300HP non-stop, it's gonna break pretty quickly, it can stand 300HP, but that's not really where it's meant to run long term. Sounds like that concern does not carry over to lifts; if it will lift the boat, then you're good to go?

Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it!
