Can I put Stabil in my gallon of oil?

I was think about putting stabil directly in my gallon jug of oil, that way I won't have to worry about it when I get gas. Does anybody ever do this or think it would be a problem?

They require different ratios to fuel.

Sometimes I add Seafoam to my gas. One thing I do is keep the seafoam and jug of oil together in the boat, that way I won't forget.

Other than changing your mix ratio, I don't see how it would cause a problem. I don't know the mix ratio for stabil as I don't use it, but I would recommend figuring out how much stabil is needed for 50 gallons of gas (assuming a 50:1 premix ratio) and mixing it with the gallon entire gallon. Then figure out your new mix ratio based on total volume/50.

Doing that would inadvertently raise your fuel to oil ratio. In other words, you would be replacing some of the oil measured out with stable. Stable isn't a lubricant;). Stick to whats simple and measure them out separately.

Yeah, that's what I pretty much decided as I was doing my calculations. I wish they would just put it in the oil to begin with.

Re: Can I put Stabil in my gallon of oil?

I've noticed some of the weedeater/chain saw oil containers now advertise that the fuel stabilizer is already in there, so it must work O.K. I always add my oil, Stabil and Ringfree seperately, just so I can use a bit more Stabil if I know my motor is going to be out of use for an extended period of time. I doubt there's any chemical reason you can't just add some Stabil to your oil. The exact ratio of oil to gas ain't that critical, some run 50:1, 100:1, 25:1....

There's no reason you couldn't do it.

If you're going to use the same amount of oil to gas ratio for your 2 strokes........ Just pre-measure the amount of oil you'll use and pour in the Stabil in the correct amount.

Then you know that if you're mixing up a 50:1 mixture, you'll use 1/2 gallon of oil (plus whatever Stabil should go in 25 gal) + 25 gallons of gas, (1 qt of oil+ stabil for 12.5 gallons of gas etc.......) Just make sure that you mix for the same number of gallons every time....... I.E. 1 gallon of oil (prior to putting in the correct amount of Stabil for 50 gallons) would need to be dumped into 50 gallons of gas.

Understand that after you put the Stabil in you'll have more than 1 gallon of oil/Stabil mix

(to treat 50 gallons of gas, Stabil indicates that you would use 1.2oz/gal of their Marine "formula" ("12 8oz containers treats up to 80 gallons") 12x8=96.......

(96oz per 80 gal= 1,2oz/gallon)........

so for 50 gallons, 50 x 1.2= 60 oz of Stabil. since there's 128 oz in a gallon

60oz====> 60/128= 0.46875 gallons Or about a 1/2 gallon!

SO, you would have about 1.5 gallons of oil/Stabil mix to make up 50:1 gas pretreated with Stabil.

Take half of that (3/4 gal of "mix") to do 25 gallons of gas and so on.....

It ain't Rocket Surgery!!

But I also don't think it's worth the trouble.........

Cheers,

StaBil is for stabilizing gasoline in your gasoline tank, Bennett. Once the gasoline gets into the carb it is too late for it to do any good at all.

Putting it in your VRO or other oil reservoir is like putting aspirin in your urinal and hoping it will help your headache. A really bad, bad idea.

Now, if you premix I don't suppose using the oil as a vector to get stabil into the gas in the tank would do any harm.

The true question should be posed to STABIL.

I am not sure if it would separate being mixed with TCW3 ..........
