I would start raising one hole at a time until the AV plate is uncovered with water @ WOT. From your picture, it appears your motor is at least an inch or two too deep, which lowers RPM and top speed. If the motor cavitates in hard turns, you may be too high.

Raise it up. Check the difference with each move.

I can't tell by the photo, but if you want to raise for better performance, go to a cupped prop. When I checked engine level, I would simply have someone drive, and looked over the back. From the photo, it look's like you have a whale tail bolted to the gearcase. If that is dragging in the water at speed, it most certainly will slow you down.

the way i see it, raise the motor match the yellow lines, also when getting out of the hole trim your motor down, then as it gets on plane, trim it out.

also get rid of the whale tail, and spend $100 on a set of smart tabs. place smart tabs where green line is. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=313041

I removed the tail and it never picked up speed. I may try and raise the engine today and Ops check tomorrow. DLS ending sucks, i only have 1.5 hrs to play after work now.

Re: Can I Raise my engine on the transom?

My engine does not have electric trim. Just 5 pin positions on the tilt rod. After changing props the bow was driven in the water harder where I had it. It was in the middle, and it rode good there. But with the new prop I had it set all the way out to the 5th position and it seem to run the best there. It wasn't a real nice day to check this out, that may have been why it felt better.

Pic1:Here is a pic of the engine in the middle trim hole. What do you think about moving up a hair?

Pic2: And another of the transom. Is not having that lip hanging over the edge of the transom going to hurt it?

Up two holes for starters and check. The lip not over transom makes no difference. My motors are at top holes for several years and work great.

It's easy enough (and free) to move the motor up a hole. I would raise it a hole at a time until you start having ventilation problems, then go back down one. You can move it up two holes to start if you feel like.

All the weight is carried by the bolts. That lip does nothing.

Here is the pic of the engine raised one hole, or about an inch. Probably could stand to go a little higher.

Kinda crappy boat weather, so it's going to have to happen tomorrow for the test.

Try it first and then consider another move. Looks like another hole up should be O.K.
Just my thoughts though.

Thanks fellers, looks like I can go up at least another hole or 2. Will raise at lunch and try to get out in the water today. Looks like it should be decent today.

Each hole is 3/4", so two holes is not very much.

Re: Can I Raise my engine on the transom?

I raised my engine up 2 holes and still have one to go. I was able to get 1 mph from it, so it topped out at 35 @ 5100 rpm's. I can get it up 1 more hole and that shouldn't hurt anything, may even pick up a another mph and some a little more rpm. Still may order a 13 prop and see what that does along with the trim tabs everyone is going to.
