Can I remove the thermostat on my (ugly!) OMC seadrive?

I have an old '87 OMC 1.6 L seadrive and boy is it ever ugly! I will be using it in the gulf near Pensacola Fl. Can I just remove the thermostat?

you can, but not advised, the bean counters would not have allowed the engineers to put one in if it was not needed. ugly do not mean it does not perform well. the thermostat keeps the motor running at the proper temperature. removing it can cause damage.

Can you remove them? Sure. Is it a good idea? Not really.

What is it we're trying to improve / change?

Replace an older thermostat...?

Always a good preventative move....

Remove a thermostat...?

Never...the water pump will push the cooling water through the block too fast to absorb the heat. You will have a serious problem....
