I guess harbor freight has a cheap tool i could buy and use. My current 75hp force by mercury doesnt seem to big maybe i could yank off by hand? Im looking at Yamaha 90hp carb 2 stroke brand new around $5k which i can swing. Will this work with my current quicksilver guages. Id like to do this the easiest way but also get something im going to be happy with thats why the yamaha 90hp looks good. Any information is appreciated im very handy just something ive never done. Another option is to go mercury 90 but why lol.

Force to Yamaha-you'll need all new stuff.

Force to Merc.-Very little.

I've switched out my last two engines using a $25.00 lifting come a long.

I braced and doubled the rafters in the garage with 2 X 4's.

I wrapped a fairly heavy chain around the rafter and attached the come a long.

No sweat. All the engines you're talking about weigh 300# or less.

Just go easy and have a safety rope wrapped around a seperate rafter with someone strong paying out/retrieving line as you go up or down.

An engine hoist of the wheeled variety is the best and safest way to go. You will need a hard surface to move it on. The holes in the transom may not match the new motor mount. If the holes do not match and the transom is wood, check the soundness of the wood where the old bolts fitted. If the wood is rotted you will have to bore the holes bigger to get to solid wood to facilitate good plugging of the holes. To plug, drill the new size hole untill it just touches the inside wall of the inner layer of fiberglass. Use a drill size just smaller than the plug. I use hardwood dowel cut just short of the thickness of the transom. This allows the sealing on the outside of the transom. I use Gel coat with a color match to make a good job. Seal the inside of the transom in a similar manner.
Use fiber glass resin to glue the plug in place. Coat the inside of the hole and allow a few minutes for it to soak into the wood then drive the plug in untill it touches the inside fiberglass wall. Wipe away any excess resin to clear the recess at each end of the plug. This provides space for the sealing gel coat.
If the hull is aluminum you may be able to fill the hloes with stainless bolts.
Always use below waterline sealant around any thru hull bolts. 3M make an
excellent product. Avoid using Silicon sealant. This deteriorates in a short time and you will have a leaking boat and a rotting transom.
You will need the Yamaha controls for the Yamaha.
Good luck.

Bummer i cant order a new outboard out of state

My local area is a joke when buying a boat or motor way over priced in Utah. There are no suzuki dealers within 250 miles, i do belive there are Mercury dealers but dont even want to talk to them. My best option may be to sell my current boat and find a used one or new one somewhere lol. I called Wyoming dealer on boats and says he will not sell to me in another state damit.
