I bought a boat with a alum/fiberglass top with 4 fishing rod holders welded to the bare alum. framework that are bright GOLD. They don't really fit in, is this gold just on the surface, thinking about sanding/polishing it to alum like the rest of the framework.

Thanks,
John :)

Well...... it is probably an anodized coating and if you remove it......the aluminum will be VERY susceptible to corrosion. It is a common coating and seriously it is best lived with.

the anodizing can be removed, and it can be polished to match the rest. But to keep the polished look you either A. have to keep up the polishing routine or B. use a clear sealer over the polished part, but this is susceptible to UV denigration and can yellow and peel off. So the choice is up to you

Thanks for the replies, will stick with the gold. IDK why anyone would make these things gold, so tacky.
