I still don't see why you'd want to modify anything. The cheapest/simplest solution is just not to trim the drive so far up. It's along the lines of what to do about the gas mileage being so bad at full throttle . . . the solution is to not run at full throttle.

I would tend to agree with this.

So when my wife or kids raise the drive they don't tear the platform off. Not sure if you have ever purchased an aftermarket platform but they are not cheap. I am just going to throw the spacers in the cylinders, not too big a deal.

I know they are expensive, but I don't have other people raise/lower the outdrive on my boat unless I'm instructing them to do so. I certainly don't allow them to do anything regarding trailer position. However, you may have people using the boat in your absence and that's fine.

I like to keep the family involved. They are getting pretty good at helping when docking and loading / unloading the boat from the trailer. My son received his coast guard training to be able to drive the boat when he was 11 a few years ago. Just trying to make it easier on everyone and prevent damage. I looked into the trim cylinder stops and it looks really easy so I will go that route and get it dialed in.

Do it the correct way and no one will ever regret having a senior moment, no matter how young they are.
If you spend the effort to make it impossible to damage the swim platform, it will be well worth the effort.
Work arounds always tend to get you in the end. Murphy lives! :D

Kudos to you, Al. :thumb:

I'm not sure why you are placing so much emphasis on trailering clips. It's perfectly fine to tow without them, and the majority of people do.

Yeah.....they're fine until you have someone drive up along-side you and point!!!!!!! And you discover that you've been driving for the last 2 hours, grinding the bottom of the drive off.........
