Can I spin a Racor filter onto my Merc fuel

/ water separator filter head and it work properly? I could not see why not so I just purchsed one with a see-thru bowl. Mercury refused to provide the thread size to me so I figured it out on my own. The thread size is 11/16 @ 16 threads per inch. Racor's unit matches perfectly but I wanted to see if there was something I did not think off as an incompatibility issue.

If it threads on properly and the gasket seals properly, it should be a go. At least as far as the Merc is concerned, there are no moving parts in the housing. Just plumbing. Not sure about Racor's.

Racor makes a replacement filter for the Merc base. Part numbers are #B32013 for outboard only or #B32020 for I/O or outboard.<br /><br />Here's the link for more info http://www.maesco.com/products/racor/r_gas/r_gas.html

I have to add my two cents to this one. I’m sure the reason Mercury didn’t want to provide the spec is that they can’t be held responsible if something where to fail. In order for a marine filter to be coast guard approved it needs to be made of ss and was to standup to some harsh testing. Keep in mind if you don’t use the OEM filter the insurance company doesn’t have to pay if the filter fails and a fire happens.

Hey Nick,<br /><br />Thank you for your input but Mercury's reluctance to provide the specs has nothing to do with what you suggest. They (Mercury) just want me to keep buying their filters even though they do not make one with a see-thru bowl and drain. All the mounting bracket does is provide fuel, the filter does the rest. If there were some moving parts, perhaps this argument would have more credence. I do thank you for your opinion though.
