...gear oil in the stern drive?

I ask because I drained the gear oil in the stern drive expecting to change it and add new oil immediately, but my gear oil pump broke so I'm waiting for another one to be shipped.

The boat is sitting in my driveway so obviously I'm not going to be running the props or using the stern drive at all, but I don't want to start her, get her running, if no gear oil in the lower unit will hurt her...

What are your thoughts?

NO. The upper gears are turning anytime the engine is running.

LOL - Don't be getting ahead of yourself. I've had my boat running in the driveway several times this spring and had to drain the block again for fear of another freeze. Checking lake levels every day just itching to get on the water.

I feel your pain :(

You could have picked a cheap pump up at Walmart or most auto parts stores...
