Re: Can I troll with this?

Maybe these socks would work better, Im thinking two 38" socks to run off of the bow down the sides.

For the price of that trolling plate you could probably get a little kicker motor off CL and save the wear on your 85hp. You may have issues keeping your boat running straight with those socks not to mention them being in the way when reeling your catch in and etc...

Probably cheaper and easier to throw a T-shirt or similar in the propeller when going trolling. With the fuel consumption when trolling with that 85 horse, you will quikcly save in on a small kicker.

why dont you just tilt the motor up as far as you can with it still pumping water.

Im not sure if that was meant to be a joke or not, lol. I hope so!

Just chuck an empty bucked over the side, cheaper.

Any chance your motor needs some adjustments? an 85 pushing an 18' sounds like trolling speed should not be the speed issue you ought to be having

Dig around on CL, or even talk to your neighbors. There are a lot of old outboards out there. I just finished rebuilding a nice 18hp Evinrude w/ tank total cost of about $230. I have a 5.5 Johnson with a good pressure tank I bought for $100 haven't dug into it yet but it looks good, and I have 10hp Johnson that's almost done and I shouldn't have more than $150 into it. I also have lots of spare parts from the parts motors that I will sell off. Might make for 3 really inexpensive motors by the time I'm all done.
