There is a nipple on the cable just before the motor. It say's use quicksilver 2-4-c marine lube. Can I use any kind of multi use marine grease? Or do I really have to buy this specific kind?
Re: Can I use any marine lube for the steering cable nipple?
I have debated this and read quite a few opinions about it. One train of though says that "any" grease will attract dust/dirt and become a major contributor to problems, and to simply use oil. Another says that any marine grease will work.
I've recently "made up" (and intent to improve upon) a seal for the output end of my steering tube. Why these things aren't available after market is beyond me!

Whenever I remove my steering arm from within the tube, I usually throw together a reemer or a crude hoaner from a bit of round stock wood and a sanding disc stapled on. That gets any swelling from rust out of it and may even expand my hole slightly. I make sure it's coated with seafoam penetrating oil afterwards.
