I seem to have blown my rectifier by grounding out the wrench while tightening it yesterday, also last year I jumped a wake & the motor stalled, ran like crap turned out the 3 nuts on the rectifier backed off causing it to arc , blow & melt the inside of electrical box cover, 1994 40 Merc..
Anyways I was told not to use Loctite on these things by a young Tech @ the Merc dealership I bought the last one, is this true & would a drop of loctite effect this component ?
thanks,
Alan

Don't use locktite you will never get the nuts off if you need to, use liquid vinal or rubber to prevent shorting

Disconnect the battery before servicing the rectifier.

A small glob of RTV silicone adhesive can help keep the nuts from shaking themselves loose. Just don't use the blue or red RTV... it just looks wrong. Use clear or black instead. I hope this helps.

Why not use lockwashers and after tightening, brush some of wifey's nail polish on the threads behind the nuts?
