Can I use this prop shaft???

Hello All,

I have a 1989 Johnson 48 special O/B model J48ESLCER.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me! Can I use a prop shaft from a 1985 50 hp Johnson w/ 13 splines?. And If not. Can anyone tell me what other prop shafts may be used, or do I need the one thats from the exact motor.

looking at Brp-evinrude engine diagrams. it seems there was a change in 89... the 85 and 89 have different part numbers. 89 - 96 48 and 50 hp use part 397548

If you have access to both . Get a hold of a mic. And compare the two.

Though , as tashasdaddy stated. Its likely they're different.

I think that the part number was 397541.
Superseded to 0439138.
