can I weld a small crack in a cylinder block

I threw a rod and cracked the cyliner. It is just a tiny crack ~1 inch long. can that be welded on the outside or does the whole cyliner block need to be replaced?<br />JT

Is the cylinder sleeve cracked or the aluminum block itself?

it is the block where the baring rotate around behind the top cylinder. It looks like my baring failed.<br />JT

As long as its not the steel sleeve or on a mating surface, go right ahead. Not uncommon.<br /><br />Good luck!
