but have done more than the trailer, am very close to launch!!!
http://

needs wax so what, used 3/4" Manilla for rub rail - three tubes of marine grade silicone, one between rail and rope, one on top and bottom - it's on there lol. Used Tung Oil on rope after installation
Bought a quart of Herculiner for sound deadening in motor cowling and for top of fender wells for footing. That's my '72 Jonson 100h back in the corner (parts only now). Before painting this 115 and knowing it was set to run, I spun it twice for one - maybe two seconds; and got nothing. The kill switch was just laying there and couldn't be certain it was on or off. Flipped it the other way and she BUSTED RIGHT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT, she wouldn't stay running after releasing the key, which sent me running and chasing the problem. I know three mechanics that know ANYTHING about these old Electric Shift Johnsons and they won't work on 'em LOL. It's been so long ago that they can't even tell ya much, but was enough for me to investigate on my own with an old shop manual.
I figured it out and the part only cost $7.95; the shipping must have been $175 though!! LMBO

I really can't paint; asked my neighbor for some advice and he straightened out what I had done a painted the whole motor!!! (exterior only, under the hood looks fairly new as it is - you wouldn't believe it's a 1970)

I had forgotten about those extra motor mount brackets that came with my '72, which is why they're not painted to match. Oh well.... took 'em back off and have painted them the blue of the gunwales

Painting is not my forte.... along with a lot of other things!! lol But I absolutely hate stencils with aerosol and used a chinese chip brush dabbing Bullseye for the numbers - hate that too LOL,
Believe it or not, "I" freehanded the name - awkward position and all....

I made a template from cardboard for size shape/position and transferred that to some artsy fartsy thick paper. Pencilled in the lettering not looking for perfection because it wouldn't match the rest of my boat!!!
Made ONE slit with a razor outlining the letters, then taped that in place and used a scratch awl to scribe the letters in paint on transom. Used razor to tediously widen letters and rough the paint.

Then painted with a tiny little brush duh huh. None of it's perfect, but good enough for me. AND AM STILL A FEW DAYS FROM LAUNCH!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Hey, stop by and make me a trailer. :)

Now I see what you've been doing all winter while the rest of us froze then got washed away.

By the way, nice looking project. Now for pictures of the big fish. :thumb:

tanks guys, but y'all are too kind!! - let's remember what we're working on LOL. Perfection definitely not the goal here!!!! Rope rub rail hides the distortion some... but it's still there, oh well, not a concern
http://

seats not mounted yet, 3/4" heater hose trim not installed elsewhere yet, new Humminbird 698SI not installed in bow yet, and there are a few more items that escape me for the moment not done yet lol.
Had to break down and buy a new tach, the old one was part of z problem with da motor; just not the only one - blocking diode in the remote, ignition switch, and the safety circuit all contributed

But I did get a coat of wax on her (by hand); not gonna do the desired 3 coats of Carnuba with my buffer!!! she ain't all that

It's the same paint but the blue on the bow came out a subtle shade lighter because I used more hardener. Herculiner foot steps

when I get done lol, maybe I could work on my '65 Sears in the backyard!!

sphelps "Already Gone" is mostly about my mental state  Just kidding  some "might" argue that point lol, I take my insanity out on this boat in what I've done to it. All that nonsense aside, it's more like I'm already there and not worried about the rest of the carp that's going on...

It's always been a favorite of mine partly because of that one line - " when you look up in the sky, you can see the stars and still not see the Light"

But also, with this (now) a 115 on back LOL!! before I hit the throttle, I'll be gone!!! It's still a long ton of boat at 15'4" with me and gear - meaning not overpowered, but close!!!  I did spend a day dropping the motor back down; not looking to scream even though I made that low water pickup on the l/u. Just means I can trim up more if the need arises...

not at all - the pics and explanations are great - thanks for sharing!

cool looking rig - tight lines!
I suggest you have your eyes checked!! If you were up close, you'd see lots of blems, imperfections, etc - but she's no show boat. Thanks though, I hear ya... for my style of flishin, it's the best boat that there is!!! If someone rolled up here with a brand new truck and brand new boat of any kind, offered me an even trade, paid all expenses for Life; I'd tell 'em to get lost......
That may not make sense to some, but to each their own.....

StarTed the seasons we have down here are FREAKING HOT!! with rain, a short Spring and Fall with rain!!, and KINDA COLD!! with lots of rain!! So spare me with the washed away!! lol And lightning is not my friend!!
Big fish, HA, I'll settle for a snag at this point. Anything to bend the rod!!! lol
You're on your own on the trailer though, I'm retired.... tired yesterday and tired again today  That's easy work.... but I guess glassing, painting, and the rest would be easy if I knew what the heck I was doing lol

That will happen on the rub rail ..  .I have rope rr on mine . A little smaller and less coarse a rope .. I snagged it once so far I think ..
Once you get out and enjoy your freshly re-done boat ya may as well work on the other one in the back yard ..
This stuff can be very therapeutic .....;)
shad-up lol, I never gave that a thought..... until now!! That's why I got rid of the carpet!!!!!! lol I considered the briers, limbs and stuff cos I fish in tight sometimes (OFTEN!!); anyway, guess I'll be decorating my boat with topwater baits  I'm laughing.... damn treble hooks you'll never get out.... uhhhhhh
Have often thought to let that little boat go, but my dad bought it for me when I was 7yo......... can't get anything for it. My neighbor's boy is 6 and they're both getting interested in fishing since I've been working on this one for soooo long!!!

Told him "take it anytime he wants". It's on a trlr, lights work, good rubber, '97 Mariner 8hp (runs awsome will do 20+ mph with me and gear).New impeller/oil, just the rebuilt carb. A days fishing would wear me out in that boat anymore, but just can't seem to part with it. Therefore, I do plan on getting her ready to fish - IF I can stay off the water long enough LOL. If I get anymore therapy they're going to lock me up :lol:

UNBELIEVABLE!!! words will not suffice to describe her now... I only got maybe 15 minutes running, but was awesome!!!!! So overwhelming, I couldn't take it all in; and there's no way to pinpoint exactly what made the difference? Fifteen more horses for sure - and this motor responds!!!!!! Double oil, fouled plugs made it difficult to get the carbs dialed in.
Plus, keeping it under 3,000rpm for the first hour.

Wasn't too big a deal, she JUMPS right up and right now!!
Is it the gusset(s) with the overkill main tied to the keel, the semi-steel transom lol, the cardboard tubes stiffening the aft hull, the Herculiner tightening up the deck, the gunwale repair, the overkill tabbing on the inner skin and elsewhere, or was it just the overall tightening up including the livewell? Must have been that HIGH PERFORMANCE RESIN!! lol
What was it that created such a change?

With this new steering cable, I couldn't believe how quickly she changes course - she practically dances across the water. I have a brand new tach and that may have been some of the problem with my 100hp? It's been three years but seem to remember it wouldn't plane below 3200 with just me/light load. With a 21p aluminum that had been reworked so many times it's down from 12.5"d to 11.75"
Now running 13x21 SS original factory Johnson

Had to hold this motor back as it effortlessly turned up to 3,000; but would hold plane at 2700ish, maybe 2600? - didn't make a study of it for now. Didn't bother experimenting with trim settings for hole shot either; she popped up no matter :D

not there yet, this isn't the right forum or thread, but am still digging worms on the motor. "RESCUE" is that thread http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...ce/johnson-evinrude-outboards/10050789-rescue if anyone's intersted, but am needing hands on and am not gettingany help there or here!! lol No problem, when I get the bugs out I'll post a video.

As far as I know, this motor was never broken in - am doing that now, but only have half an hour on it (15min yesterday and 15 today lol). I'm HOPING to run it a couple hours tomorrow, we'll see.
IF that works out, I'll maybe lol have some video then because I can turn up the heat some (4,000rpm). Limited to 3,000 first hour; but at the ramp this evening a guy asked me "what was I running, about 45?"
I didn't even see him, must have been tied off to the bank? Tach never showed above 3,000 but she scoots there and gets there quick, but 45mph at those R's.... no way. Gotta get that Humminbird with gps hooked up...... sometime! lol

PROOF!!! that it floats and idles lol.

http://

my buddies boat (Tracker w/50h Mercury) does 32mph gps and I'm right beside him at 3400rpm. Guessing 50ish is tops (mph)? That it matters? not!!
Still haven't installed Humminbird - so I wouldn't know. Plus have a bit more break in before running that hard sustained. But she's a flying at WOT!!
4,000 r's is a safe, comfortable ride, not noisy except for the wind lol

RIPLEY'S Believe It or Not - since I'm such a liar!! lol Been saying according to Jonson manual, 100esl72r and 115esl70d both weigh 252lbs. Block size is larger, but the bore being larger in the 115 might account for weight being the same? Very minor differences in the l/u, but are interchangeable.

Originally made a "best guess" for the waterline in 2010 when first painted - same now. Notice the wet "water mark" on bow inline with the rest of the waterline; notice starboard side dipping indicating slight starboard turn, and not slight turbulence behind indicating I had just bumped the throttle slightly - which also caused the stern to dip and bow to rise.

JS, if it does sit lower it's because of ALL THAT ************ resin!!!!!!!
No longer running 24:1, too rich!! 36:1 for nine more gallons should do it - manual says 24:1 OR 50:1 using "their" oil. What's the difference between OMC and Quicksilver? not much.....
In other news lol, he caught three Cappie while I was running around, pitiful day for flishin, great day for riding!! :joyous:
