Can / should I sell it?

Hello all,

I've got a random question for ya'll. When I recently bought my boat, the guy gave me a spare, junked motor for parts. Needless to say it's came in quite handy. I've used a lot of parts off the power head, which has two good sized holes around the intake area. The lower unit is mechanical shift whereas mine is hydro-electric. I have no way to tell if it's any good, but I have no use for it what so ever. The question being, can I sell the thing sight un-seen, should I part it out, What kind of money should I look for, if any? It's a 1973 Evinrude 50hp, If you guys have any ideas or thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks, RF

Yo Capt. Wood,
If the spare lower unit is mechanical shift, I'd keep it. My ,76 'rude is mechanical converted from electrical. Mechanicals are eaasier to work on but more important easier to get parts for. You might even consider switching yours over.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Can / should I sell it?

Hooty,

Thanks for your reply! Did you do the swap-out yourself? If you did I'd love some details on it. I've had nothing but trouble with the Hydro-electric on my Johnson 50hp. It's running OK now after spending a few weeks and some cash on it, but I'd love to make the switch. My Johnson is a 1972 50hp, and the Evinrude is a 1973 50hp. I know most of the powerhead components swap out, do you think the lower units will. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Ross

Capt. Wood,
I wish I could tell ya I did it myself but I didn't. The guy I bought it from iz a class A OMC wrench and he brought this engine up to about a '96 with 50 or so hrs. on it when I got it. I'll bet thought, there are wrenchs here on the board that could talk ya through it if it can be done. Ask and see what happens.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty
