Can someone identify these wires for me?

The motor is a 1973 65hp Evinrude. The wires have always been loose as long as I have owned the motor, and don't seem to affect its performance, so I kinda know they must be for something non-essential. I can't find anything in my factory service manual. Maybe tachometer? I'm lost.

they lead around the back of the motor and then enter it here (faint red circle):

Double check your wiring diagram again, I believe they were part of an automatic choke circuit that evinrude thought was a good idea. On mine they were between the choke solenoid and a temp switch on top of the head. Most everybody disabled 'em.

Yup, automatic choke wires. When you turned on the key switch, it activated the choke 1/2 closed. This was to try to keep the engine running while warming up. It usually caused the engine to run to rich during warmup and caused running problems if the temp swith didn't turn off the choke. Most were disconnected.

100% accurate^^^ you have to choke manually.

Actually my electric choke still works at the control box. You just push the key in as you are turning the key.

The choke at the helm will still work, those wires had nothing to do with that. They were indeed hooked to a sender for an auto 1/2 choke deal. There was a bulletin out way back when to disconnect it.
