Re: Can someone say "Plug!"?

Last Thursday, I took my boat out with my friends, but only one of them had been in the boat before. We backed it into the water, I parked the truck and came back. They were all in the boat. Then the one who had came before said did you put the plug in? Dang. NO. So i put the plug in. then put it back on the trailer to let it drain.

So far, so good.
I have a vehicle just for towing the boat & put the plug right there on the driver seat. I slip the plug hoop over my pinkie finger when I get in the vehicle & keep it there til I launch. It's so damn uncomfortable I can't wait to take it off. Developed this "system" after my first, & to date only, forgotten plug incident

Yup, it happens to everyone. After 5 years it happened to me a couple weeks ago. Fortunately I got less than a couple hundred feet from the ramp and noticed, so I was able to beach it quickly. And the best part was no one saw me!!!
:D

My motor toter attaches to the frame and I have to pull a pin out to release it. It is directly under the plug hole. I have written on the toter in BIG letters "PLUG". I have to admit that before I did this I once left it out on a very cool Oct. Morning.
I do the same thing...my transom saver is about an inch from the drain hole. Can't launch without seeing it.

CONGRATULATIONS, You are now a true boatsman. That little episode will now help you to remember the plug. I think attaching the plug to your key chain is a good idea. Maybe I will even do that myself some year. :D

I always make it part of my loading it up to go to the lake routine. I get to the lake unhook the boat and I know it's in.....

I learned from others mistakes, but I may still do this someday, so I bouht a spare and keep it in the glovebox of the boat :)

I've heard some war stories bout this! ;)

Glad it worked out, I bet it doesn't happen again either.

Sounds like a nice boat!

Best you can do is buy an extra plug and store this in your boat. You never know. You can put it in and pump the wather out. I'm going to fix in my fletcher that i can also put the plug in from the inside when you forgot to put the plug in. My first boat had no plug. That was easy but always had to clean the back out. Second boat has one but never forget it. It's always my dad who asks or i've putted the plug in.

I took a 1/2" Pipe Flange and bolted it inside the locker where I store my straps and transom saver. Whenever I open it, the flange is a quick reminder. It is also where I keep my extra plug.

That's where I WAS!! Patoka Lake, Lick Fork SRA ramp. It was embarrassing. And to boot, my roommate left his Cell in his pocket. He pulled it out dripping wet. The screen didn't come on when he opened it to shut it off. We boated for a couple hours and when he turned it back on in the truck it worked...WHEW!

After reading this forum, I will be taking a lot of zip lock baggies for phones, keys and wallet! ;)

Ya gotta love Patoka - Going there this Saturday to try out my boat with the seacast(ed) transom repair. 1981 Skeeter Starfire. We launch out of Newton Stewart SRA.

Oh yeah, and DH has forgotten the plug "TWICE" now. Last time, we hightailed it over to a cove and he jumped. I had to laugh, because I was up putting the trailer up, when I walked back down and thought he was sitting a bit low in the water. -- DUH!

Re: Can someone say "Plug!"?

I put my plug in before leaving the garage and recheck at the ramp before backing up. The plug doesn't come completely out so it's not possible to leave it at home. So far so good! :)

I do the same, i plug in the garage and then leave it there until she returns to the garage. Then i unplug her and let her drain in the driveway. Once shes done draining, i put her right back in. So far so good, no incidents yet.
