I had to remove the people that were in the boat so that they wouldn't get upset with me for putting their pic on the internet that is why some areas are blurred in the pics. There were no markings on the boat when I got it and I was told that it was an MFG from the sixties. Does this sound right?

Hi Jon. Now that I can the boat you wrote me about, I'm not sure its an MFG. The gunnels in the back don't look right to me, and the whole transom does not look like MFG made them. I could be wrong, but the best plan is to compare to the brochures on fiberglassics.

Let us know how it turns out.

Welcome to Iboats..

FRP boat ?? .. MFG ( molded ) is what your asking ?? or just made out of fiberglass .. ?

IF its question of if its fiberglass.. Im sure you can tell us with the holes in the dash for the cap..

If its a question of if its fiberglass on the hull .. Im sure you can tell ..

If its a question of IF this boat was Popped out a 60's Glass mold .. thats hard to say unless you know who the boat build was..

The hull and the dash seem to be fiberglass. This is my first boat project so I am kind of learning as I go. I am sure I will have a lot of questions before I am done. I just found out today that the transom is going to need replaced. I am just curious who the manufacturer is. My buddy asked me what kind of boat it was and I didn't know what to tell him .... lol.

Hey YD, he is asking if the boat was made by the MFG boat company. I don't think it was made by MFG, but I could be wrong.

Its looking like it lol :) ..

First thing when I saw MFG was MFG=Molded Fiber Glass.

Soo.. as far as I can tell if its an MFG boat build .. I have no clue and will now gracefully and quietly back out of this :)

Hey YD ..... I can see how you looked at it and you are right, It can be interpreted that way. I probably should have worded it differently. I can't seem to find it in the MFG classic boat library so I am thinking that Mark is correct in saying that it is possibly a different manufacturer. I am kind of sad because I love the MFG logo with the shark.

This boat has what appears to be three metal stringers. Can someone tell me if this is factory or did someone add them later?

That is kinda weird. But, from the looks of it, the starboard and port stringers are only about 3 feet long and the keel stringer is no much longer. Normally they would run the entire length of the hull. It also appears you have lateral ribs in the hull similar to a wood or aluminum hull. That too, is unusual for a fiberlass hull. What KIND of boat IS THAT????

I googled Fiberglass boat from the 50's with aluminum stringers and I think I might have found your boat....

http://www.fiberglassics.com/library/Speed_Queen

Kinda looks like the style and since it has those aluminum stringers and ribs I think this company made that boat.

Re: Can someone tell me if this is an MFG boat?

My boat is only 12 ft and it doesn't have the seperated area between the driver and the back of the boat. I know that the boat is from the sixties from the previous owner but he was rather old and he couldn't remember much and wasn't able to find any of the original paper work from the boat. So I have no clue what kind of boat it is. Do you think that the ribs are aluminum also?

I'm not sure if the ribs are aluminum or not. That is a very unusual design for a fiberglass boat. That boat is only 12' long??? Not being rude but R U sure? Looks like 14-15 to me. But Hey my eyes are 60 yrs old.

Yes ... as a matter of fact when the state guy came to inspect it to give me a new hull number he said that it measured 11' 6"

I am going to replace the transom and put in a deck next week so I am going to take the top off. Do you think that the ribs in the hull will help to hold the hulls shape or do you think it will spread the hull out ot shape?

Might spread some...But the corners will keep the transom itself in the right shape. So when you put the top back on , all should be good.

When those boats were delivered to the original owners, I'm pretty sure there would have been a plywood floor hiding the stringers. May or may not have had foam in there.

They did all kinds of strange stuff in the past. (by current standards) It must have been fine if the hulls survived this long.

Yep ^^^^

Its been much longer then a year since it splashed

FH, please take note of WHEN a topic was last posted to BEFORE posting. After about 90days its best to treat most inactive topics as library books and for research only and not to be written in. As noted at the top of the forum page in the helpful tip comment and in the rules. And an well unsupported hull will distort when you take the cap off. Glass in a new deck while its distorted and the boats cap may or may not go back on easily or otherwise and the hull may handle and perform differently because of the glassed in distortion.

Wish Jon would swing back thru and post some in use pix of his MFG. If you do and want to post here PM me or any Mod and ask them to re-open this for you.
