Re: Can someone tell me what this stuff is?

I had a marine mechanic tell me that he was finding something similar in a lot of the boats he was working on and found out it was actually corn meal. I live in the Midwest, not sure how prevalent ethanol is nationwide. He had a state fuel inspector come look at it and he explained that the ethanol that is added to the fuel now is a corn byproduct and it actually will leave corn meal in your system if it is not burned out in a very short period of time. I have no idea if this is true, it is just what I was told and could be one explanation for the fuel deposits. Either way, glad you have it all fixed.

I posted this over in the Mercruiser section also:

My carburetor saga is finally over.

After two years of telling the folks at the authorized Mercury repair shop that the rebuilt carb that they sold me was crap, I finally bought a brand new carb and my problem of getting fuel in my crankcase is gone. I've run the motor for 10 hours and I've taken the houseboat out twice and the oil looks great, without a hint of fuel addition/contamination.

For those on iBoats who have said that rebuilt Mercruiser carbs are crap, I wholeheartedly agree.

Now, how do I go about getting the $500 back that I paid for the POS carb that they sold me? I'm certain that they won't warranty it even though I said from day one that the carb was bad. Small Claims court?
