I just don't want him going off, doing something dumb, and blaming the forums...

Re: can this be done?

Somehow, someway I have gotten duped into reading both of this young whippersnapper's threads and have come to the conclusion that many others have...

He tries, but never hard enough...

He wants, but doesn't want to do it right...

Is stubborn and seems to know it all...

May find out later in life that he should have listened and learned...

Will probably end up working for the government, or even President of the U.S. and making more money than God...

Even if someone gets seriously hurt or killed through his actions, he will probably come out smelling like a Rose [ Remember Kennedy ]...

And has fooled many well-intentioned and highly experienced individuals here on Iboats to give him, not only sound advice and encouragement, but a second opportunity to once again give voice to the same pieces of knowledge that apparently enter through one eyeball and exit the other without the least bit of resistance in between.

May God, or whatever higher power, smile kindly upon this persons future and may the harm that may have already been inflicted be minimised.

To the Moderators, I do humbly apologize here and now for my comments and if it is seen as a breach of etiquette, I will gladly and without reservation, delete my comments. Otherwise, may they be looked upon as a statement of learning, even this late in life, how things should not be done...

With that, I bid you all a good night and a well deserved good riddance to this thread...

Re: can this be done?

I normally do not get involved in threads like this since my own lack of knowledge shows in my work....but that work is scary. The forum is here to avoid just that, if you don't know, ask. If you ask and still don't know, ask again! with the guidance here anything can be done, and done safely, with a end result you could be proud of, know is safe, will turn others heads, last longer than you will, and provide enjoyment for your kids families.

That being said, if you asked for help, got solid answers on previous projects and ignored it then, it is hard to expect people to devote time, however menial, to your cause. if this is what you want to do, and do it your way...go for it...but don't do like I am...Don't put a Powered by Iboats graphic on your boat please, I am putting one on because ,y project is as much mine as it is this communities (no you cant borrow it! Imma go feeshin).

Re: Train Wreck

I am too darn tired and confused to look back up there...but whoever linked his other thread need to walk the plank!!! I could not resist the urge to click...and then got caught up reading it for 2 hours....its like a bad book you cant put down because if you do you will miss something so totally moronic it makes you shoot milk out your nose reading it! Anyhow, goodnight and good riddance...i will refrain from clicking these threads to save my own sanity....I believe I dropped at least 10 I.Q. points off that

Re: Train Wreck

Hey Kid, do not post anything untill you have ground that hull to the BARE. Remove everything you can from that boat, wires, screws, knobs, every little splinter in that thing. And when it gets too dark outside to see, get in your house and read these forums. Read, search, read. Get serious about it. MAKE THOSE STRINGERS RIGHT and the floor plan is open for your design.

Best Wishes, Bug

Re: Train Wreck

Take that boat to a big field out in the middle of no where, bring your friends pour some gas on it have a bon fire and have a good time, save up your money and look for a cheap aluminum boat to restore.

Re: Train Wreck

well the floor i was do something about and the transom add extra support so it would be all good.

you cannot just add extra support to a rotten transom sbl......you have to remove the rot and rebuild the wood.....if not....the transom will rip off the boat.

i was just thinking this because i like to work on the boat more then use it lol. i like doing stuff like this.

ok.....cool......lets get that deck up and just add planks of wood between your ribs..... and glass them in.....that will work for stringers in a little boat.....but the transom still needs to be built.....dont care if your dad says its ok.....it not

You can't support rot, you take it out, or throw the whole mess away. There is no magic "Easy" button with this stuff, you either fix it or throw it all away. How do you support a rotten transom to support an outboard. Answer that, because I sure don't know of any way possible.

this is totally correct

i get bored just rowing out to the boat starting it and going for a ride or tubing with friends ya it's fun but idk i like working on it more. i think ill just get the motor running again and go from there.

you dont have the motor running yet?.....get it running....or you dont have anything.

Can it be done?... yes

Take the cap off of your boat, pull the decking and correct your structural mistakes. Then rip out your transom and fix the rot... this will give you more demolition and restoration experience, and maybe then you could undertake the cabin project,

this is totally correct

I think you should absolutely do this.

lol

sbl......you can do that to your boat......but it wont make the boat safe.....the boat should still not be used to take your friends out on .....it is still unsafe bud.
that is a long swim to shore with a dead buddy under your arm.

lets just rip the deck.....add the stringers and the transom......then we can talk about your cuddy.

Re: Train Wreck

I respectfully disagree..... the added expense would be negligible and the work would possibly be less to cut through the ribs and replace them with at least two solid ribs... two lengths of pressure treated 2x? and a bit of glass and epoxy to attach to the hull... The ribs can be fastened to the stringers for floor supports

He'd end up with a MUCH more solid boat..... Of course we are both probably wasting time on this but I'd love to see some of this stuff hit home
